The Juvenile Texas Correctional Office on Offenders with Medical or Mental Impairments (TCOOMMI) Special Needs Diversion Program provides intensive in-home counseling and case management services to youth ages 10-17 on probation in Travis County. The program is a joint venture between TCOOMMI and the Travis County Juvenile Probation Department.

Treatment teams are comprised of a therapist, case manager and probation officer. Each team works together to counsel and educate youth and their families on how to live successfully with a mental health diagnosis, complete probation requirements successfully and avoid reoffending or placement. Teams go to homes, schools,  court and other community locations to provide services. Cases are open for six months on average, with teams making two home visits and three to five contacts per week.

Who is Eligible?

Youth ages 10-17 on probation who meet priority population requirements, have been referred by the Travis County Probation Department, and have a parent/guardian willing to participate in intensive in-home services.

What to Expect

  • If a youth has been accepted into the program, an intake appointment will be scheduled for the youth and parent/guardian with the TCOOMMI Intake Specialist.
  • After the intake has been completed, the TCOOMMI team will enroll the youth in the program and services will begin.
