Central Texas African American Family Support Conference (CTAAFSC)
The CTAAFSC is hosted and sponsored by the ATCIC, New Milestones Foundation and other community partners. The CTAAFSC is a free, yearly public event that works to strengthen family and individual awareness of available health care services, behavioral and physical, through culturally sensitive education, supports, and partnerships. It strives to increase individual and family awareness of available behavioral and physical healthcare services, reduce stigma, and eliminate health disparities. The CTAAFSC is planned and organized by a volunteer Planning Committee that meets every other month on the third Wednesday at the ATCIC Administration Building (1430 Collier St.). Volunteer to be a part of the Planning Committee or work on the day of the event. To learn more, go to ctaafsc.org or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Hands on Central Texas host of several Days of Caring each year. ATCIC participates in the MLK Day of Service in January and the Spring and Fall Days of Caring. The particular volunteer projects vary each year. We have been the recipients of much needed help in the New Beginnings Pantry at Alameda House and in our gardens at Alameda House and Oak Springs Project Recovery.
Consumer Council Recognition Event
Each year, the Consumer Council honors individuals for their outstanding achievements. Volunteers are needed to help decorate, serve food, clean and help create a festive environment.
Each year, ATCIC staff, consumers and families participate in NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Walks for the Mind of America, held at Auditorium Shores. NAMI Walks is a nationwide mental health awareness and fundraising program. Already the program has generated over $20 million for NAMI affiliates and their programs nationwide. All proceeds from NAMI Walks are used to fund NAMI's education, support and advocacy programs.
Each year, ATCIC staff and volunteers work hard to have a thanksgiving lunch for ATCIC consumers and their families served at the CARE program.
Annual Fiesta Gardens Party
During the holiday season, ATCIC celebrates with the people we serve with a holiday party at Fiesta Gardens. Consumers enjoy a hot meal, gifts donated by family and friends and live entertainment.
